FAMIS and Medicaid for Children
FAMIS and children’s Medicaid are Virginia’s health insurance program for uninsured children of low-income families. Both FAMIS and children’s Medicaid cover all the medical care growing children need to avoid getting sick, plus the medical care that will help them if they do get sick or get hurt. Both programs have full benefits. There are no enrollment costs or monthly premiums. A child must usually be a US citizen (some non-citizens also qualify) to be covered by these programs but a parent’s citizenship is not considered.
To apply by phone, call Cover Virginia at 1-833-552-5582. Apply online at www.commonhelp.virginia.gov.
