TOPS Program

TOPS provides subsidized transportation funds on an easy-to-use debit card for eligible older adults, persons with disabilities, and those with limited income who are residents of Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, or the City of Falls Church. Program participants are eligible for two subsidies per year (one subsidy every six months). Each subsidy will provide $100 in benefits at a cost to the participant of $20. Transportation Options include; Taxicabs (Springfield Yellow Cab, Fairfax Red Top Cab, and Fairfax Yellow Cab), Rideshare services (Uber and Lyft), Public Transportation: bus and rail via SmarTrip card, Capital BikeShare rental. Shepherd Centers

Free transportation services for those 50 years older who are no longer driving and need assistance getting to medical appointments and grocery shopping. Must call to make an appointment 5 business days before the transportation is needed.

Student Bus Pass Program

All Fairfax County High School and Middle School students are eligible to get a bus pass and ride the Fairfax Connector and City of Fairfax CUE bus for free. This student bus pass SmarTrip card permits students to ride Fairfax Connector or City of Fairfax CUE buses for free from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., 7 days a week, all year. All other times they will need cash or a standard SmarTrip® card. The pass lasts until the student graduates or leaves school. A student won’t need a new pass unless yours is lost, damaged, or no longer works.
Students must contact their school’s administration office to get the appropriate form to sign up for the program and receive the pass. Parent/guardian consent is required for this program.

Medicaid Medical Appointment Transportation

Both children and adults with Medicaid are eligible for transportation to medical appointments. The program is managed by Modivcare. To schedule transportation the person needs to call 1-866-386-8331 at least 3 days before the appointment. There is no cost for the service and anyone covered by Medicaid is automatically eligible and does not have to fill out apply separately for this benefit.

FASTRAN offers specialized transportation services for residents of Fairfax County and the Cities of Fairfax and Falls Church participating in human services agency programs. Services may have associated fees based on a sliding scale, please speak with a representative of one of the certifying programs/agencies for details. All riders must be certified by one of the following programs/agencies before utilizing the service: Critical Medical Care, Adult Day Health Care, Community Services Board, Senior Centers , Senior Residences, and Therapeutic Recreation Services.

MetroAccess

MetroAccess is a shared ride public transportation service for people who are unable to use the accessible fixed-route Metrobus and Metrorail public transit due to disability.  MetroAccess can be used for any trip purpose within 3/4 of a mile of areas serviced by Metrobus and Metrorail, during the same hours of operation as regular Metrobus and Metrorail service.
